I keep hoping AI will fail and die a quiet death. It's one of those areas of research where I immediately think, "Nothing good can come from this."
Maybe I've watched Tron, The Terminator, and The Matrix too many times. I keep thinking of movie lines, like...

I sort of agree, Daniel. The film Her was an interesting take on the idea. It didn't go in the apocalyptic direction, like The Matrix and so many others, but it did highlight how dwarfed human capacity would be by a true AI.

It reminds me of a cartoon I saw where this guy is showing an alien his smart phone. He's saying, "This device gives me access to the entirety of human knowledge. I use it to get in silly arguments and look at funny cat pictures." Or something like that.
