Yeah, he was on the Rabid Puppies slate, along with most of the rest of the nominees. I'd never heard of him before. He seems to have a fun sense of humor.

My FB feed tells me that he's going to get Zoe Quinn to accept the award on his behalf if he wins, that's the Gamergate girl. He doesn't seem to be on Vox Day's team, even if he was on the Rabid slate. |

Been poking around. I'm guessing the Puppies' motive in pushing Tingle was just to make the Hugos look ridiculous. Backfired, perhaps? Like when the George W. Bush administration invited Colbert to give the White House Correspondents Dinner roast? |

Just went to breakfast with a friend, a former teacher, who told me this story of a parent-teacher conference.
A large and surly parent asked "Why have you given my Billy a 'D'?"
My friend got out his grade book and showed the parent his son's sorry history of missing assignments, and pathetic performances.
Surly Parent: "I don't see why they have to learn all these adverbs and proverbs anyway."
My friend said that since retiring he had come around to the belief that there might be something profound in the question.

Good one, shelley. It often feels that way, even though my beta readers are very supportive. They claim to enjoy reading my stuff, although it's sometimes hard to tell that from their comments.  But that's the way it should be. I want them to be brutal, and I ask them to be brutal. My goal is to improve the story to better than "insurmountable amount of garbage" by the time it reaches paying readers. |
