I was reading about criminal charges that appear to be coming to yet another of our dedicated congressional representatives, unfortunately that didn't surprise me as much, but seeing an iPhone with what appears to be a mic app, among the throng of more traditional mics, really had me saying WTF! Maybe he's a blogger or news outlets are really cutting back, editor: "you don't need an expensive mic, just download this app to your iPhone, go get 'em Bernstein!"

Actually, I read a couple of years ago that NPR journalists have taken to using iPhones in place of lugging expensive sound equipment around in a lot of situations. It's just not cost effective anymore, and the advancements in mobile audio have been sufficient that the quality is there.

Also in the photo, you see people with tape / audio recorders. iPhone has acceptable recording app. I've used it myself a few times. it's pretty good.

I must be too old. Although I no longer lug a camera and video camera on vacation like in the old days. I just use my iPhone, so the times have changed.
