Backpfeifengesicht is my favourite. The sickening regret you feel when our hard drive dies and you don't have a back-up? <google> Bummer. Not even close. Here's a hint:

Is that a Backpfeifengesicht or what? Right down to the flashy bespoke suit and purple silk pocket hanky paired with the unbuttoned shirt collar and crooked half-Windsor knot. I know "I'm too rich to give a fuck" is a thing, but this is really over the top. And why bother with make-up if you're not going to do your chin?

Those are an amazing mix of things I wish there was a word for and things I'm pleasantly surprised other cultures feel they need a word for. Backpfeifengesicht is my favourite. Hmm. Is that what's wrong with my neck, I wonder.

Lynda: I first read your comment, above, out of context... and I thought: "What a wonderful first line for a book about a ghost who's just been guillotined". Meanwhile, I just went off to read She's very new blog, She is Victorious, and that made me remember when mine was just a pup. So I'm posting the link to my first ever blog post right here. I am proud of and mortified by it, in equal measure. As these things should be.

Just wrote my first book review in ages, for "she" of many pen names (Victoria Leybourne) and her novella, Bloody Zombies. Please take a look!
Or just read the short version on Amazon(She says she doesn't read her reviews, but she really wouldn't mind this one.)

From time to time, I like to shine a spotlight on an indie author whose writing is dynamite -- who deserves a little more attention. I call it "Indie Author Appreciation Day." Today, I feature a delightfully creepy author of horror and more, Harvey Click. Have a look, and maybe even read the first two chapters of one of his novels, The Bad Box. Yes, it's Indie Author Appreciation Day. AGAIN! Today, I feature our very own pub-buddy, Lynda Wilcox. Please check out the post and share it if you can, because Lynda's light-hearted mysteries deserve a shout-out. Thanks!

Any time, Lynda I think it's a very good article -- so good that I wrote and asked for permission to reblog, since there was no reblog button! And then I got some samples of his books. Seems like a very funny guy. I must take the credit (and the blame) for the blinding beauty that is this, though. John L. Monk said it crashed his computer:

That's good stuff on the passive voice, but holy cow it's long! In brief, yeah, we have the passive voice because it's useful. There's nothing wrong with it ... unless you're using it when active voice would be the better choice.

Yes... it's a bit of a dissertation, isn't it? More article than blog post. But at least he's amusing!
