Just wondering. Lots of my readers are waiting for my next book and the e-mail list is growing. I am poised to publish at the end of May. I have the cover already and was going to post it on my Facebook author page. But is it too soon to do this six weeks in advance? Or should I wait until a week or so before publication?

I usually can't resist sharing my new covers as soon as I have them. I usually wait until about a month to 6 weeks before to add them to places like goodreads etc, but this time, my fans got ahead of me and added them really early. I already have 7 'to read's'.

That's great, Rinelle! Then I can go ahead and post it on my author page, I think.

If you have fans chomping at the bit to read the book, I see no reason not to do the cover reveal now. Their enthusiasm and even any frustration they might express at the tease will likely pique the interest of other people and might even win you a few more sign-ups to the mailing list.

That's what I thought. I just didn't want them to go off the boil.

Always a tricky one this and I'm in no position to advise you, 'cos I always get it wrong. I revealed the cover for Married to Murder both here and on FB ages ago, yet I'm still struggling to finish it. I'm definitely in the Douglas Adams camp when it comes to deadlines.

I would never announce a publication before I had at least sent it to betas. And I know I'll get it back from them at the beginning of next week. My editor wants it by the following Friday. So I'm quite sure I can do it.

Here is the lovely cover: Nice cover, Suzy. I like the continuity you've kept with your other "Hot" titles.

Great cover and branding Suzy! I pretty much always put a new cover out there as soon as I've released the previous book - mainly to let readers know they don't have too long to wait for the next installment. I'm usually pretty vague about a release date (IE "around Christmas" or "Spring 2014") - then when I'm about a week from publication I create a new image with similar branding to promote the actual release date. The last one I did was this:

Thanks Becca! I love messing around on Photoshop Wish I had the mad skilz. It must create so much flexibility to be able to do stuff yourself.

Thanks Becca! I love messing around on Photoshop Wish I had the mad skilz. It must create so much flexibility to be able to do stuff yourself. I honestly had no Skillz whatsoever when I released my first novel. I had photoshop on my computer because my old job required me to have it, but I didn't have the first clue how to operate it. I learned (and am still learning - I can set fire to pretty much any image, but beyond that I'm a bit stuck!) following step-by-step tutorials on youtube. Whenever I feel a bit frazzled from writing, I get on Photoshop and try to create covers for books which I might one day write. It makes me feel productive when I'm really not It does help though - when I saw someone on KB post a thread about creating 3D covers and iPhone images I spent a while learning how to do that. I think it stems from a desire not to spend any actual money on such things

Then again, the program is soooo expensive. My last job had a site license for it, but I don't think my current one does.

Lovely cover Suzy! I like to have my covers out early because I put them in the back of the previous book to try to drive mailing list signups. My photoshop skills are ok, but I seem to lack any design skills whatsoever. Sad, but true. I outsource my covers and other promo material to my sister, who has the design gene in the family. In return, I do lots of sewing and stuff for her!

My next book is coming out in July, and I hired Rebecca Hamilton as a pre-release 'buzz lady' to make sure people are looking forward to ordering the book as soon as it is out! She's helping me to build my mailing list, gets bloggers to do cover reveals, tweets about my work, etc... and it's only April So, if you KNOW for sure when you'll be publishing your next brainchild, I'd say, go for it and do some early promos! Becca, I'm still waiting for your book too!
