It looks like ACX are opening up to non-US authors, Ireland included, yay. So I'm wondering if it's worth doing? Has anyone here done an audiobook?

I love the idea of creating an audiobook, but the limited research I've done into it and the threads I've read on KB have talked me out of it for now. It takes a lot of time or a lot of money unless you are willing to give up a percentage of royalties, and finding someone who will take a % on an unproven book is difficult. (You might have more luck with that.)
I'm not an audiobook consumer, so it's hard to get motivated about creating one. My main interest is driven by the desire to do the narration myself. I've done training, radio shows, and other public speaking engagements, so I believe I could do a good job. But I don't know anything about audiobook narration, which requires special skills as I understand it.

But my mother has very poor eyesight (Macular degeneration) and she reads audiobooks. I'd like her to be able to read mine like that. I also saw my younger nieces and nephews reading books on their phones like that. I think it's good to have your books available in all kinds of media.

I had Nolander up there for ages, and it did attract a number of auditions. None of them were good. All the voice-actors sounded stilted and mispronounced words. I think you just don't attract the best people when you do royalty share. I'd pretty much given up on it when ACX changed their royalty structure. At that point, I decided to bag it. Good point. I might read it myself then. Except my Irish accent, with a Swedish undertone might not suit...

Very hard to say. Most people don't like their own voices.

Very hard to say. Most people don't like their own voices. True, true ... do you think opera singers feel that way, too?

I don't think I'd be a good narrator either. I have a very soft, wispy voice. Not quite the ideal for action.

My wife says I have a radio voice, so maybe I should do my own! Well, I'd need something to narrate.

My voice sounds like thunder in bed. This needs to be a bumper sticker.
