I'm thinking of doing a giveaway of The Lockington Legacy on my FB page, but have no idea how to actually get the e-book into winners hands. The book is currently available via Amazon, B&N, and Apple - Kobo is taking forever - the latter two via D2D. I'm in the UK, so can't gift my books via Amazon. Any suggestions - or do I just email the file to winners?

If you have them on Smashwords, you can use a coupon code. That's what I do.

Thanks, Suzy, but I don't have anything but one kid's book on Smashwords. The experience of going through their meatgrinder put me off ever using them again.

I thought D2D did coupons as well?

Yeah, I'd do Smashwords. I think that's the only option other than emailing the file.

I thought D2D did coupons as well? Oh, maybe they do. I didn't know that!

I'll check that with D2D, thanks.

Coupons are definitely on D2D's "to do" list, but I don't think that feature is available yet.
I'm with you regarding Smashwords, but you can avoid the meatgrinder these days. You can upload an EPUB file to Smashwords and then turn off all distribution so the book is only available on Smashwords.com. I'm not sure about this, but I think uploading an EPUB gives you a Mobi as well. The only way to offer the other formats is to upload a Word doc and go through the meatgrinder. I also believe Smashwords still requires the "Smashwords Edition" verbiage on the copyright page, even when you upload an EPUB.
ETA: According to the Smashwords publish page, if you submit EPUB, EPUB is all you get, so the Smashwords option probably won't work for you unless you want to fight the meatgrinder. I'm surprised they don't give you a Mobi, since all they would have to do is run it through Kindlegen.

I gave up and paid someone to format my books for Smashwords. Great result and only 30 euros a piece. Well worth the money.

Have always heard bitching about SW, but if one uses their "nuclear option" a novel runs right through it without errors.

I prefer to do it by Smashwords. When I go to conventions I have business cards and I write the temporary coupon code on the back and when it expires.
But I have done it by buying and emailing the book to people through Amazon. It's a bit of a hassle, but sometimes people respond better that way.

I paid, lay back and let someone else do it. all it amounts to is copying the text into the notepad, then recopying it back into a new Word file. Then you only have to add back any italics or bold. That's it. Not something I'd pay for.

Dropbox allows you to share a download link of a file in your box.

Thanks, Lisa and Nadia. I have a Dropbox account, though up until now I've used it only for storage not for sharing. I'll check it out, thanks.
