I'm just planning for the future. I'm gonna try (once I have a book to sell). Just curious if anyone has given it a shot. I don't imagine they take on may authors, even if they ARE local.

I've never tried it, but I organize a local Meetup of Indie Authors here, and several of them have tried with local indie bookstores and once they found out they were self published with Amazon (CreateSpace) they were basically thrown out of the store. I exaggerate, but all of them were told, they wouldn't support or sell local authors published via Amazon owned CreateSpace. Only if a walk in customer would request their book would they order that one copy.
I would think you would get the same vibe from B&N, so unless you're using Lightning Source to print your books, don't be surprised if they're not very friendly to your request. Bookstores hate Amazon.
