I have a suggestion for those of us using the "Blog posts" section of this forum. When you post a link to a blog post, consider posting a "suggested tweet" or "suggested share" along with it. I would be more than happy to help spread the word about your new post through my Facebook and Twitter friends. If I can force myself to put up with G+ for a moment, I might even post it there. Here's an example of what I'm thinking... Suggested tweet: The Druids of Mundia - ow.ly/v8QOF - [Druids and rangers and monks, oh, my!] #fantasy #magic Share on Fb from: www.facebook.com/DanielRMarvelloThoughts?

Great idea, Daniel! A ready-made tweet is very easy to copy and post (just did). And we're happy to like any FB page/post if you put it up here.

Thanks, Suzy!
One point I forgot to make in my original post was that just having those links is a good reminder to tweet/share. Personally, I need those reminders. And offering a copy/paste tweet means I'll probably fire up Hootsuite and post immediately.

Actually, this got me thinking...How about a section for tweets and FB shares in the Blog part? Make up ready-made tweets with hashtags and we'll share them. And we'll share any Facebook posts as well.

I'm a bit hesitant since my readership is mainly YA. I can do fantasy and general sci fi, and other YA, but I'm pretty careful to advertise books my readers would like in any outlet. I can certainly understand others feeling like my books wouldn't suit their audiences.

And we'll share any Facebook posts as well. Personally, I don't think we need a separate section. Just including the tweet/Fb text with the post it applies to seems good. That way we can read the post and see if we think our Fb/Twitter followers would be interested in that particular thing. As for me, I'm happy to tweet about stuff occasionally, but I'll rarely share stuff to Fb. I don't do direct promotion of my own stuff on Fb (one post in a thousand, maybe), and I'm very careful not to post other promotional stuff there, either, unless I think there's going to be a high level of genuine interest.

Some readers are omnivorous, but enough of them are dedicated to certain genres that I'd be pretty careful about promoting across genres. Not only might it not do the promotee any good, but it might turn fans of the promoter off, too.

I would tweet anything with the appropriate hashtags. I have nearly 600 followers on twitter of all kinds of genres.
As for sharing on FB, I'm happy to do that as long as it something of interest. But no need for a separate section, then.

But no need for a separate section, then. Maybe wait for others to chime in. You know my deep-seated prejudice against separate sections.

Suzy: We might do a pinned thread in the blog section with recommendations/rules (e.g. one thread per author).
I didn't mean to imply that all of us should tweet/share each others posts. All I was suggesting was that the person who puts up a blog post include suggested tweets and anything else that might be useful to friends who *do* think the information would be of interest to their audiences.
No expectations, and no guilt. Just share if you have the time and inclination.

Even if no one chooses to tweet a particular post, it'll be good practice in Twitter writing, which is its own skill.

I just put a suggestion thread in the blog section and made it a sticky. Let me know if you want me to add anything to this.

One thing I will commit to do is try to read y'alls posts and comment. I think that could help people out.
