Looks plenty steep to me! I mean, look how far down the water is. That's how I got the blister on my toe... Ouch! I *hate* getting blisters.

Weather still glorious, so we're staying a few days extra. Tonight we're going here for a seafood dinner and to look at the sun setting into the Atlantic.

So,the wedding anniversary went like this: Me: "It's our 300 year anniversary, let's go to Spillane's for a seafood and steak dinner!" Him (glumly): "okay, let's got there and fork out 90 euros for something that wouldn't be half as nice as something you'd cook at home." Me: "yay, let's go!" Him: (even more glumly): "If you want." I slap on some makeup and he puts on a clean shirt. We drive out there, admiring the spectacular scenery as we go. He tries to get away with fish and chips to take home when we reach the village but I glare at him and mutter 'cheapskate'. So on we go, out there to the restaurant... The sun was dipping int the ocean, and glinting in the windows and also on a sign that said 'CLOSED'. Husband cheers up and says: "sorry, honey,I suppose we have to have dinner at home, then..." But I spotted the little fish shop nearby that hadn't closed yet and bought fresh shrimps and a lobster (not cheap). Then we went home and I cooked my loot and we had it with a bottle of white wine. Then there was football on TV and I washed up. THE END

Nice! So do you visit the Fountain of Youth in Kerry? I hope I look as great as you do after 300 years of marriage.

The whole of Kerry is like a fountain of youth. The water is so soft you need to use only a third of the soap and shampoo anywhere else. And the air so clean. I noticed the other day that the window in our cottage are as clean as thy were when I washed them about six months ago. Very little pollution, as we are far away from any industry or big city

Makes you feel truly grateful to live on an island in the Atlantic with not much industry.

Okay, that's disgusting, Becca. I remember driving through Bakersfield and being able to "taste" the air. I guess it hasn't gotten any better. Even thought it was fun writing about a few places in San Diego in my WIP, I definitely don't miss California.

Now I'm suffering from wanderlust...but that's okay, because it just makes me work harder.

He can be very romantic on ordinary days. He did give me that trip to the south of France on St Valentine's day (we're going the first week in May). And he is a very talented in DIY. He restored this little cottage all by himself, including installing a shower and building a kitchen (with the help of IKEA). Everyone has their little foibles, don't they?

If I think too hard about the fact that this is where I'll be spending the rest of my working life, it gets pretty depressing. I live north of Bakersfield and Fresno, and the air gets better the farther north you go. It's still not good, though. Financially, I want to focus on getting a little summer place back in the Upper Midwest. Getting the kids out of here for at least part of the year every year could lengthen their lives. That applies to my spouse and me, too, of course. (And even if there were no health benefits, I miss Wisconsin.) In fact, I'd prioritize buying that place above buying real estate where we are now. This is basically desert that's been irrigated into one of the most productive agricultural regions on earth. Climate change could strike the local economy very hard. I'm not counting on being able to sell a house here twenty years from now.

Last day in Kerry for now (going home tomorrow). We went high up in the mountains today and walked 'the pilgrim's way' an ancient road the monks used to take across the mountains in the early Christian days. And we came across this strange rock formation.

Wish you could all be here and see the night sky; the new moon and the Milky Way with millions of stars. We have no light pollution here as it's so remote.
