I posted this on KB but thought I'd put it here too:
There is a new site just starting up which aims to provide a platform for authors and artists to display their work, creating a youtube for books. (that's the claim).
The idea is to enable anyone to showcase a book easily. As all content is discoverable by Google search engines, writers interested in being found through searches by keywords might find it beneficial to upload a sample first 3 chapters.
The idea is to increase discoverability of books according to their content, not only their title or author's name. i.e., a historical novel taking place in Avalon would score high in Google for searches about Avalon, which is not the case for books on Amazon and other online bookshops unless the word Avalon is showing in the title or book description.
A month after the launch, some of the books already score in the first 10 search pages for keywords such as "lost puppies". The more content is uploaded, the higher the cumulative benefit will be. So the more that gets uploaded, the more visible the site will be. The platform is entirely free, both for uploading books/chapters and for reading and will remain free forever.
It's very new and hasn't really taken off big time yet. But I uploaded two of mine there as I think any kind of exposure is good.
I saw this on Facebook and asked the developers of the site what it was all about. They said they are looking for funding to make the site even better and have had some great feedback from potential investors. And of course, they will work hard to spread the word about the site worldwide.
Could be something big, eventually, like Pinterest or Instagram. Or it could bomb and just disappear... You never know with these things.
Anyway, here's the link if you want to take a look. www.ourboox.com/
