I've got a Gallaxy something as well, though I don't remember what generation. It's great. It even gets porn. Yeah, Consumer Reports praised its porn-downloading abilities.

Well, I don't even own a cell phone. That's right. None. And I don't want one either. That's how old school I am. My wife says it's coming soon and that I can't fight the future forever, but for now I'm still free.
I am caveman, hear me roar!

Everyone has a landline in Ireland. Mobile phone calls are three times more expensive here.

I tend to adopt technology I think is useful as soon as I can get my hands on it. I was on the internet shortly after Al Gore invented it, and I was marvelling at the wonder of digitized academic journals before my peers knew they existed. But I never bother with things I see no value in, like cell phones, and no amount of social pressure is going to convince me otherwise. I admit, however, that phones are getting more attractive these days.

I want a landline, since our VOIP phone sucks. Sometimes this newfangled crap is overrated.

But if you are getting a cell phone, why *also* get a landline? Except for emergency calling, the landline is redundant. Oh, wait. You have a pay-as-you-go mobile. That's different. My cell contract gives me more minutes/texts than I ever use for a flat fee.

Our landline is tied into our home alarm system. I think that can be changed now, but I haven't looked into it. It's antiquated, but I like having one solid number the kids can call.

We have a landline, but I don't own my house, and I almost never use it. Mostly we get telemarketers and political calls. I feel like it's completely useless. I hardly ever get spam calls on my cell.

We need a landline because our alarm is connected to that. We also get the internet wifi from the phoneline. And the mobile signal up here on the hill is weak sometimes so that's another reason.

That's killer. If we didn't get excellent cell reception in our home, we'd have a landline. You know, cell reception seems to be very, very good all over the U.S. I can't remember the last time I had a dropped call, but that used to happen all the time when I first got a cell phone.

When you live rural, you get used to not having technology. For years, our only option for Internet was 28K dial-up, and then later, satellite (both of which suck). We can't get DSL or cable because we are too far out, and we can't get wireless because we are in a valley without line of site to the towers. We now have cellular internet, which isn't great (still 3G), but it doesn't have the latency problems of satellite. In order to get that cellular connection, we had to put in a special antennae and signal booster to the tune of about $300. One nice side-effect is that we can now get a cell connection for our phones inside the house, which also used to be impossible.

But I wouldn't want to move to the city.
