When I see a number of guests here, I always feel I should offer them something, like food or drink or at least a cup of coffee.
I think it's the word 'guest' that triggers this feeling. I was brought up to be polite to guests and make them feel welcome.
But these are not real guests, of course. Just people lurking or even those bots that gather information.

Can guests post here, Suzy? It would be nice to have some more activity on the site - much as I love the cosy feel to the place and the sense of camaraderie with so few active contributors.
I honestly can't see that you can offer them anything, only an incentive to become members. And I've no idea how you do that.

No, guests can't post. I didn't think that was a good idea. We also had a little trouble once with a guest who was, let's say, not very polite.
I can't ban a guest if he/she becomes abusive. But it's so easy to register so I'm sure anyone who wants to post will take the trouble.

If I see any guests, I'm gonna flash 'em.

If I see any guests, I'm gonna flash 'em. That will quickly establish their intentions, anyway.

Some/most are probably bots, so it wouldn't do much good anyway. But a lot of people say hello to guests in their shoutboxes.

There are few people lurking too and I know who they are. I think some writers don't want to join because there is little opportunity to promote here.

Points for the most absurd cape ever. "Hmmm," says the artist, "I can't have him flex and wave a sword at the same time, so I'll draw cape arms and have them flex."

Maybe it's a magical cape and it's helping him crush his enemies. Not sure how much damage a cloth fist would do, but hey, with magic you could make that cloth as hard as stone.

Seems like just the kind of book where the hero would happen across a deus ex machina magic cape!
