I've just finished giving my blog a facelift and reorienting it toward readers' interests. I'll probably continue to sprinkle in some author-interest stuff, since I'm genuinely interested in those topics, but I'll try to keep it in check (before it was almost entirely oriented toward authors). the-active-voice.com/

Thank you, Suzy! I liked your post as my real self, then realized that might be sort of weird and unliked it. Good lord, I'm over-thinking things!

Good evening! I'm about to have breakfast and then get stuck into a few hours' of lovely writing; tea in my blue mug and a slice of toast with marmalade at my side...

It made me think about the hero in my WIP. He's a war correspondent and he is trying to raise awareness about the war in Syria. Very few people know that this is one the greatest humanitarian crisis in modern time. One hundred thousand people have died in this war since it began, a third of those civilians. How many know this? Not many. It's quite shocking how little we care, isn't it?

Very few people know that this is one the greatest humanitarian crisis in modern time. One hundred thousand people have died in this war since it began, a third of those civilians. How many know this? Not many. It's quite shocking how little we care, isn't it? Exactly, Suzy. I hear a lot of news, since I have the radio on when I commute. Last week I heard a seasoned war correspondent say that the situation for the civilians in a particular Syrian city -- Homs, I think -- was the most desperate he had ever seen. Thousands of people with literally NO food, not even a scrap of tree bark, and no way to get out. And no one can seem to do anything to end the conflict or bring in relief. With the Russians on one side and the west on the other, and with Islamic extemists moving in, it's like the Cold War all over. You think about it too much, and a kind of exhaustion sets in. You start thinking that human beings are never going to stop doing this. A way of making ourselves *unable* to do such things starts sounding not too bad.

It maybe too much to comprehend. So we don't try. It's too big,too unbearable. We turn our minds away because of that.
