Congratulations! It sounds like he's a keeper. Definitively. Add a DIY genius who can fix anything, put up shelves and build a kitchen in an afternoon to the romantic streak. I'm holding on to him!

South of France? What a showoff. Makes the rest of us look bad.

South of France? What a showoff. Makes the rest of us look bad. Yes, I know.he is like that. Does nothing for months, forgets my birthday, snores, never does the washing up and then- wham, I get this surprise.

He seems to live by the feast or famine model. Fortunately, a trip to the South of France in May covers a lot of ground. He's probably good until next V-Day.

I might add that a trip to the south of France is quite affordable from here. Flights are reasonable and renting a small flat is not that expensive in May. But a lovely idea.

Lucky for me, the wife doesn't like to travel, so I get off easy. I'm gonna get burned out on travel this summer. I'm going to the Czech Republic and London for a week in August, and then a week or so later the wife and I are flying to Oklahoma for my mother-in-law's 90th birthday (just to listen to her nitpick at the wife, drives me nuts). Ew, I'm already homesick.

For us, it's Hawaii. We had our honeymoon on Kauai and have a standing agreement that we go back every five years. So far, we've managed it.

That's where we're supposed to go for our 25th in two years. I'll have to get some tips from you.

My best friend's husband bought my best friend and I tickets to see Alton Brown's stage tour. I asked him if he was sure he didn't want to go, but he said he wanted us to go.

Err, probably not. I'm not gonna want to fly there and then fly back, only to fly from London to the States the next morning. I've already got my tickets booked.

You could have flown to the US from Shannon. That's what I do.

Valentine's happened early in this house. a trip to the south of France in May... Whoa!!! You guys are making me envious with all this talk of traveling ... sans four-year-olds! We'll need to drive up to Portland for my niece's wedding, and I unfortunately have some family funerals/memorial services to attend. That's it for this summer.

That's where we're supposed to go for our 25th in two years. I'll have to get some tips from you. Any time. I've been to Maui, Molokai, Hawaii (the "big island"), and Kauai. The others have their charms, but I still like Kauai the best. Unfortunately, it has grown a lot in the past 20 years. Plan for two weeks if you can; you'll be glad you did.

Nice! Now you have a fun trip to look forward to boot! Your comment on the heat cracked me up. I have the same discussions with my wife. It's a chip that is implanted in all men: My wife and had a nice dinner at a Thai restaurant we like. She wanted to do a Yoga class on Valentines night, so I walked down there after her class and we walked to a nice dinner. It was a nice full moon and nice night for a walk. She told me no flowers, since they'll be half off the next day. She's so practical.
