Does anyone else find the Kindle content interface hopelessly clunky?? I went in there hoping to be able to sort my books according to what device they're on. No go.
How about displaying all the title bookshelf-style and allowing one to mouse over them to see covers and then drag them to visual representations of your devices? Or something ...

I can't remember anything specific that I don't like, but I agree it's clunky. Every time I use it, whatever I'm trying to do seems harder than it should be.

That's clunky and so is the fact that the Fire doesn't allow you to categorize and sort your own library. I love that the e-ink version does, but since I use the Fire more, it's just one more fail.

I was just looking at this because of the massive Fire failure where it doesn't remember any of the books that are actually on it. I have to re-download all the things I had downloaded before. Not gonna happen. So I tried using the Manage Content thing to see what's on it and make sure to put all my books on my ancient Kindle instead, so I can, you know, maybe READ them. Sadly, there's no way to figure out what is on what device.
It's been too long, but if I could, I'd return the POS Fire. Worst $50 I've spent in a long time.

Dang, one more reason to stick to the e-ink readers! I love my kindle paperwhite, but part of me wants to get a Kobo reader because... they look so nice, and Kobo is such a nice, book-focused company, and my kindle is clogged up with samples and free books I'll probably never get around to reading.
Anyone here have a Kobo reader?

I don't have a Kobo, but I remember Hugh Howey talking them up ages ago. I think they had a model that was waterproof??
That problem with the Fire sounds extremely annoying!

Becca should write an app--and make a billion--then start a foundation for indigent writers. My application is in the mail.

That's really nice ... I have to put my Kindle in a ziplock.

A major disappointment with not being able to categorize books on the Fire. I waited so long for one, and now I have loads of books that I have to open and check because I can't remember if I'd read them or not. Which moves them up to the top (going by Recent), and I keep forgetting I checked some of them, so I open them again. Argh!
And the manage link is really horrible if you have a slow computer. Amazon is so ahead in some things, and so behind in others. Crazy-making.

Having seen what Amazon is creating today for readers, I may never give up my Kindle 3 Keyboard. I love that I can move books from the main "home" list to different folders. I've used a Fire and haven't been impressed with it at all. It's pretty, but the touch interface is a pain and the way it manages windows/activities/apps is confusing and messy. It has too much "mystery meat navigation" for my taste (and not just because I'm vegetarian).

The windows/apps management isn't really a function of the Fire itself, it's the basic Android interface so I can't blame that on Amazon. The not being able to categorize books in the Fire is all on them and is absolutely ridiculous. ETA: Apparently there is an app that will let you sort your books into categories on the Fire. It's got mixed reviews and costs $2.99. It only works for downloaded books, and not for those in the cloud, but there are some drawbacks. It has a reading app built in that doesn't automatically save your page and their excuse is that no 3rd party apps do that...well, that's patently false since I have the Nook app sideloaded in my Fire as well as the Overdrive app and the 3M app and all of those save pages. I'm tempted to give the app a try as long as it does not supplant the regular reading app. All I want is to be able to put my books into folders...I don't need a new way to read them. ETAA: Okay, you actually can create collections on the newer Fire tablets. Mine is a Kindle Fire 7 and I can do it. Here are the instructions. www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201588880However, once you add a book to a collection, that doesn't actually change how it shows in your master list of books, so it's of limited value. I have a collection that I apparently made without realizing it, that has books I've finished reading. They still show in the master list of downloaded books, but I can easily open up that collection and see if the book I'm currently looking at is on the list. It would be helpful to be able to set the Books tab to only show collections instead of the master list, but I guess it's better than nothing. I will resist the temptation to waste writing time fooling around with it...I swear.

What I'd like to be able to do is organize them in my Amazon management area and have that show up on all my devices ...

According to that cloud collections thing, you can create collections that are stored in the cloud and can be imported to and from supported devices. The page I posted the link for doesn't actually tell you how to do all of that, but I assume there are other instructions elsewhere. I doubt you can do it from the management page, but it would be nice.
