Hi guys. Have you published a book with a vampire in it -- even a teeny-weeny one? Or do you read books about vampires? Check out "Vampire Books for Blood." It's a good way to promote your book while... doing good. The October event brings authors and publishers of vampire-themed books from the U.S. and Canada together for a shared goal: to raise money for the American Red Cross and Canadian Blood Services. Participating authors and publishers pledge to make a financial donation to the American Red Cross or Canadian Blood Services at the conclusion of the event. The donation can be a flat amount, an amount per book sold in October, or a percentage of royalties earned from book sales in October. There's no minimum pledge and no cost at all (other than the pledge) to participate. When an author or publisher pledges their support, their book is listed on the "Vampire Books for Blood" event website. The website allows readers to easily browse books from participating authors and publishers, and link to where the books are sold. Scott Burtness, author of the Monsters of the Midwest Series, created the Vampire Books for Blood (SM) event in 2014. It is held annually from October 1st through October 31st. I've known Scott for a while now online, and he is a really nice guy. For someone who writes funny books about bowling vampires and werewolves, that is. (He even contributed a free troll story to the new version of my Antrollogy, which will come out later this year.) Here's the facebook page; make sure to turn on all notifications if you plan to participate. And here's the home page: Vampire Books For Blood

By the way, the book I pledged for (Hyperlink from Hell) isn't about vampires, per se, it just has some (possibly) imaginary ones in it...

No vampires, I'm afraid. But a great initiative. Hope it goes well.

Sadly, I don't have any vampires, either. If they have one about mermaids or dragons, hit me up.

Yes, I was scratching my head to think of any of you who write vampire books -- but you never know what someone writes under another pen name, right?
I shudder to think. And now I'm imagining Jane Austen writing dino-porn...
Perhaps some of you could share the link to the site anyway; who knows? You may know some vamp-y writers!

I fact-checked your post and found lots of completely true statements, Ms Moone.

I sent it to FB friend Marion Stein, author of my all time (and only) favorite Vampire book. I don't know if she'll be interested--I think she is pretty discouraged, although her book is a genre bending miracle of humor and scariness. Thanks for the suggestion.

So I got the sample for now. I hope she'll participate, because you never know -- it might bring some new readers to her, and if she bases her donation on October book sales, it's a win win, right? If she gets no sales she won't have to donate... Although no sales isn't actually a win in my universe, but you know what I mean. At any rate, you got at least one person to check out her work from this post, right? Might as well drop the link to the book in question here.

Sounds like fun. If only I had a vampire book. If they were doing a "Howl for Blood" promo with werewolves, I'd be in.

Ooh, Mr. Darcy, you have such big hands. Are you sure you're a T-rex?

You know, Scott's second book in his series features a werewolf... I will howl in his ear and see if maybe he'd like to start another pledge drive!

so cool! No, no vampires here.
I don't have the energy to do all my own stuff, but a "disaster novels for disaster relief" would be a nice thing to do. (Some other nice person will have to do it. I can barely keep up with housework and the biz.)

Like a lot of other indies, I write, format, illustrate, publish for myself, do covers for others, and then with the new edition of the antrollogy it's wrangling authors, compiling stories, editing, illustrating... Just yesterday I was whining that I wish someone else would promote for me, because I just can't do everything AND cook for 5! Like most authors, I find promoting involves jumping furthest out of my comfort zone. As far as backing charities with books goes, the possibilities are endless. Dog novels for guide and rescue dogs... Bet there are a lot of these already going on. If anyone knows of others, it would be great to have a list!

I'd also love a list of needy libraries who want PBs. There was one listed on kboards about a year ago but I've lost the address.
