I wasn't on there long, and haven't been on in a long time, but whoever said that whatever you put on the internet will last forever was wrong.
Message boards that have disappeared that I used to frequent (just off the top of my head) Authonomy Writers Bistro CC Outcasts Steelers Fever Forums The Official Steelers Message Board NFL Draft Steel ESPN Football boards (twice) Writers Digest (since back up)
All that time wasted on words I thought would last forever and be read some day in 3099 by Glorp, the Romulan Prince after they take over Earth.

You were on Authonomy? ? So was I. When were you there? I had a few fights with people there. It was pretty bloody. Writers Bistro... well... the less said the better. BUT thanks to it, we have the pub. The pub wouldn't be there if the Bistro hadn't happened.

I was only there for about a month or two, circa 2009-2010. It wasn't for me. Too much self-aggrandizing. I moved from there to Absolute Write and a little board with Krista Ball, Chrystala Thoma, Barbara Elsborg, Marie Dees, and a bunch of others. I left there when they wouldn't approve someone I wanted to invite, and I thought the reasons were petty.

I used Authonomy for a bit in 2008 or 2009. I feel like I joined when it was pretty new so...*googles*... probably 2008. I was only 17 then and really excited about the idea of attracting HarperCollins' attention. I got disillusioned with it pretty quickly, if I remember rightly, because it was really just a pit of desperation and vote-trading. And all you were competing for was the chance to have an editor *look* at your manuscript. It felt exploitative to me and I can't say I'm sorry that they're not doing it any more.
I am sorry you've lost a community, though. Couldn't a few Authonomy regulars start a new forum for you to migrate to?

I think Authonomy regulars scattered long ago. Some of them are over at KB.

Well, three of them were small boards, and I had a hand in it. But it doesn't take much when it's a small board. You tick off one of the regulars, things dry up, etc...

I was HUGE at Athonommy from 2008-2010. I had numerous threads that were declared 'hot'. Two ofmy books were in the top twenty, but then I got bored with all the stuff you had to do to stay there,so I left. It was fun but also scary with attacks from trolls. It was my first experience with Internet forums,so I have a few scars after that one.

I was on from May 2008 for about a year or so. It was fun at first, but I got tired of reading other people's stuff. A lot of it wasn't ready for publication. I quit--then went back again under the name 'Carlos Redivivus' and then quit again. Now they won't let me back on. Of course I was there in hopes that somebody would read my stuff (which also wasn't ready for publication. ) It rarely happened. Only Suzy and a guy trade-named Verity Crowe ever read it. I'm amazed Suzy had that much time on her hands, considering how many books she was writing herself. As far as I know nearly everybody on Authonomy migrated to Facebook.
