Meant to mention, apparently "drive-by reviews" are a problem within Amazon itself, just as they are for books! There's an Anytime Feedback Tool you can use to criticize other employees privately to their bosses, and it is said to be abused.

Yeah, not a great place to work. Makes you wonder if internal problems are more of a threat to Amazon's long-term viability than external competition. (I say, without having read the article because I've heard enough about it to think it will only depress me).

I have to say, I wouldn't last five minutes in an ecosystem like that! Yup. I'd be shit-canned in a week. Maybe less. I have a sign in my office that my husband refers to as the "telecommuter's mantra." It says, "I work and play well with others when they leave me the fuck alone."

This is typical of any Silicon Valley, oil industry, investment firm, fashion industry, etc. big-time company. You wanna take it easier? There are plenty of companies out there that'll take you on. You won't make as much, and it won't look as good on your resume, but it's the rat race. I can't help but think this has more to do with all the advertising dollars the Times is losing out on because people buy direct from the Zon, than with some outrage at the work conditions.
p.s. I think the 'Zon is closing in on monopoly territory, so it's gonna be a wild ride over there for the next decade.

Being super successful makes you more than a target: you become The Enemy.

It is extraordinary that Amazon's value has surpassed Walmart's. I mean ... wow.
