Until recently, my blurbs were way down on my list of priorities. I knew I had to have them, and like anything associated with my books, I wanted them to be good, but I never realized the impact they have on my sales until this. Which is really dense on my part, because the cover might catch my eye, but it's the blurb that actually sells me. Sigh. Still, although I might be slow, I am not incapable of learning. From now on, the blurb gets as much attention as the cover. And Becca... good luck with the hubby. When I turn to Dawn and say, "Hey, one of my readers says I'm hilarious," she just rolls her eyes, says, "They don't have to live with you," and goes back to her book. Heh, heh. I think I'll get a similar reaction. Yeah, it's hard to underestimate how important both cover and blurb are. I bet there are a lot of readers who are attracted by the cover but then make the decision based largely on the blurb. That certainly describes me. Curious: I know Bookbub writes its own blurb. Did they use the same blurb both times?

No, they didn't. In fact, I've run 5 Bookbub ads now and the last time they ran this book, they really messed up their blurb for the book too, which I'm sure greatly contributed to its poor showing.
The last time, their blurb said something like "See the journey of this couple as they stay together for thirty years" which completely missed the hook of the book, which was reuniting after 30 years apart. When I filled out their survey, I made mention of that fact, but also told them that I was going to reevaluate the way I was presenting the book, as far as the cover and blurb, and that I would be back in six months to try it again.
This time, their blurb was much more spot on with the content of the book.
