One of the many reasons I am hesitant to publish is the fear my book will end up highlighted in a place like this... Don't worry, we'll make fun of your cover first so you get used to it. p.s. The wolf cover on that site is hysterical

The wolf cover on that site is hysterical I'm not sure how comforted to be about that! ^_^ Well, I've just about talked myself out of my own cover but I'm not comfortable with the stock covers, either... May just have to save up and find a decent cover artist willing to at least read the first part and design something that genuinely suits the story rather than something that kinda-sorta fits in a generic way.

If you can gather the funds, getting a custom cover can yield a very nice result. And not all designers cost an arm and a leg, either.

And it's probably one of the most important investments along with editing/proofreading we can make. I linked to her before, but I'm very impressed her work: yocladesigns.com/portfolioI haven't used her (don't know her either just found her cover thread on KB), but wow, such talent. She charges $95 for custom work. Add $25 for the createspace cover. $120 for an ebook and paperback cover of that quality is dirt cheap IMO. This is someone who will (sooner or later) raise her prices once her talent gets out. I found Damon Za on eLance back in 2012 and he charged around $200, now he charges $500. He's worth it, since he's very good, but that's how much is stock has gone up since then.

Wow, her work is top drawer, Alan.
I agree about the importance of a good cover. In fact, so long as your prose is reasonably clean, I think a pro cover is more important than pro editing.
