I moved the promotion thread to the promo part of the forum (as it was a kind of announcement).
But I thought I'd post the updates here just to keep track of the results.
So: I paid £15 for a three day post boost of a photo with text that I pinned to the top of my author page for my three day St Patrick's day promotion (three books at $0.99). It has resulted in nearly 1000 views already (after three hours) and a few sales here and there. I targeted the post to: readers, romance, romantic comedy, chic-lit, Ireland,e-books, literature.
I put all the information in the comment box above the photo with universal links to each book. This is an experiment to see if this kind of promo works or not. So far, it has raised the profile of my page, in any case.
I'll keep you posted on developments...

I'll post this on KB too, just to inform the people over there of this kind of promo. (I'm sure they know already though)

Yes, I have to say, sales are up. And 2.500 views so far. Not bad

Very cool! This is part of what I have been planning in conjunction with a free run when my new book comes out in April / May.

So far, nearly 5000 views and maybe ten more sales on each book than I would have expected. The promo runs until late tomorrow. Pretty good for £15.

Nice! Thanks for sharing the results. I've had good luck promoting through FB as well, but mostly for my free runs.

Well, yes, lots of views (11K) and a a little flurry of sales, but according to an 'expert' on KB I didn't target it to the right groups. All the same I did well.
I might use that Facebook targeting service next time, though.

As long as you're happy with results that's the good thing. The more targeting the better, but sounds like you did that, Ireland, Romance, etc.

Yes. And I put chick-lit ad a whole lot of other things in as well, which I can't remember.

Promo ended and resulted in at least 50 more sales than normal. A success, I think. I'd post it on KB but then that guy will come back and tell me I could have done a lot better had I not targeted it wrong.

Yes, I think it was very good. 16K views in all. Plus some more likes. I might go and say that. And just ignore Mr know-it-all.

I didn't bother posting my results on KB. I'm a little cheesed off with that place right now.
But... I have to say that I saw boost in sales with this little promo, during a month that usually sees a slump. So, I might try a page (instead of the post boost) promo next time, as I have heard it also has a good effect in more likes and views.

There was a great KB thread on avoiding fake likes to your Fb page when advertising a few weeks ago. That's really important because if you get a bunch of fake likes, it dilutes your ability to reach your real followers.

I think if you target it right, you'll get real likes.

I think if you target it right, you'll get real likes. Yeah. You have to specifically avoid the click-farm-heavy nations. That's part of it.

Oh yeah, that's the kind of resource we should be looking for, but it's 4.5 yrs. old. We should try to find something more recent, in case targeting possibilities have changed.

Hmm, yes. But it gives you an idea. I think targeting groups is still a good thing to do.

The problem I ran into before was that Facebook kept charging me past the day and views and ignored the limit I set. Then they said I owed them a sizeable amount of money because they kept showing the ads. I wouldn't trust them to keep to the limit set.
